A Hospitalist is an internist  who specializes in the unique care of patients who are admitted to the hospital. An internist is a physician specially trained to diagnose and treat adults for routine health issues as well as many illnesses associated with internal organs. An internist or hospitalist may specialize in infectious disease care, gastro-intestinal illnesses, or kidney disease, for example.
